The fit-again Angelo Mathews has been included in Sri Lanka's squad for the second Test against England, but fast bowler Chanaka Welegedera has been ruled out through injury.

All-rounder Mathews missed the opening Test in Galle, which Sri Lanka won by 75 runs inside four days, as well as the preceding Asia Cup with a calf injury.

However, the Sri Lanka vice-captain has been declared 100 per cent fit and replaces batsman Chamara Silva in the squad.

The selectors have also added fast bowler Shaminda Eranga to the squad for the match at the P Sara Oval starting on Tuesday after left-armer Welegedera was forced out with a groin injury.

"Mathews has been declared fit and we have brought him in but he will not bowl," Sri Lanka's chief selector Ashantha de Mel said.

He added: "Welegedera bowled with some discomfort during the Galle test and a scan revealed that he had strained his groin."

Eranga, who took four wickets in his debut innings against Australia last year, is unlikely to play as Dhammika Prasad is expected to replace Welegedera in the starting XI.

Sri Lanka squad: Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Lahiru Thirimanne, Kumar Sangakkara, Thilan Samaraweera, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Prasanna Jayawardene, Rangana Herath, Suraj Randiv, Suranga Lakmal, Dhammika Prasad, Shaminda Eranga, Tharanga Paranavitana.
